Open Studio

Open Studio

This week is ‘Open Studio‘ in Cornwall, which means there’s an opportunity for the public to have a sneak peak into artists homes and take a look at their work.

I wanted to share with you my favourite artist Claudia.  Her use of colours is breathtaking and totally original.  I haven’t seen anything like her pieces anywhere so you are in for a real treat if you get the opportunity to visit her place in Downderry, on the south Cornish coast.  Please take a look at her website https://claudiahocking.co.uk.

Claudia works with a combination of acrylic, inks and oils on her latest pieces of crustaceans and sardines.  I particularly love her surf board art of sardines and mackerel ‘swimming in waters’ some of which have been painted on recycled surf boards.

Claudia’s inspiration comes from the environment and lifestyle that surrounds her.  The studio is set in the grounds of her family home with panoramic views that’s sweep from Looe Island to Rame peninsular, with miles of beaches and rock pools that really set the tone of the Cornish lifestyle to which most of us can only aspire.   Her husband keeps his fishing boats a few miles along the coast in the the attractive port of Looe.

Claudia’s work has been featured in art galleries around Cornwall and also at the Watergate Bay Hotel, The Great Cornish Food Store, the Beach House, but mainly works on commission based projects.

Open Studios 27th May – 4th June.

Its Not What You See Its How You See It
