Open Studio

This week is ‘Open Studio‘ in Cornwall, which means there’s an opportunity for the public to have a sneak peak into artists homes and take a look at their work.

I wanted to share with you my favourite artist Claudia.  Her use of colours is breathtaking and totally original.  I haven’t seen anything like her pieces anywhere so you are in for a real treat if you get the opportunity to visit her place in Downderry, on the south Cornish coast.  Please take a look at her website https://claudiahocking.co.uk.

Claudia works with a combination of acrylic, inks and oils on her latest pieces of crustaceans and sardines.  I particularly love her surf board art of sardines and mackerel ‘swimming in waters’ some of which have been painted on recycled surf boards.

Claudia’s inspiration comes from the environment and lifestyle that surrounds her.  The studio is set in the grounds of her family home with panoramic views that’s sweep from Looe Island to Rame peninsular, with miles of beaches and rock pools that really set the tone of the Cornish lifestyle to which most of us can only aspire.   Her husband keeps his fishing boats a few miles along the coast in the the attractive port of Looe.

Claudia’s work has been featured in art galleries around Cornwall and also at the Watergate Bay Hotel, The Great Cornish Food Store, the Beach House, but mainly works on commission based projects.

Open Studios 27th May – 4th June.

Ocean Splash

Believe it or not coastal decor is my absolute favourite thing to design and I am excited to introduce you to four new cushions that will bring a splash of statement colour to any room when matched with our Daymer Blue and Fistral Cosy Supersized Blankets.

Proudly British made from organic cotton and filled with ethically sourced feathers for a super plump feel, these luxury gems will fill your home with the spirit of the ocean through design and colour.

I have chosen a more heavy weight cotton (like a cotton canvas) for more durability which in turn is ideal for outside use for those wanting to transform their garden into a coastal sanctuary.

The design and colour compliments the rest of our collection with waves and stripes in our best selling ocean blues and jades.  Why not also check out our matching Bone china collection of plates, mugs and more to complete the nautical vibes.

Heres a few shots of Matt and I at work, styling and photographing our new Cushions, matching blankets and bone china for a new brochure.  Hey I even thew in our sample cap which is coming in a few weeks too.

My new products should be available in the next two weeks.

Here are a few shots from the shoot that were kindly taken of Matt and I at work together.

A massive thank you to Laura for letting us photograph in your beautiful new home.

Thanks for reading!

These days it’s all about ‘making it local’ so we have teamed up with a fabulous company in Cornwall to produce a small range of Luxury Organic Cotton (GOTS approved) home accessories that are going to create quite a talking point in your kitchen.

We thrive to design a product that stands out from the crowd and get people talking about our home accessories, but its not all about the design. The Cornish Surfer takes pride in sourcing only the very best ethical fabrics to produce long lasting homewares that you can enjoy knowing that you are purchasing products that are kind to our planet.

Our British-made Apron & Tea Towels are nautically themed with our signature wave design in our best selling Daymer Blue or Storm black, mixed with clotted cream.

Try matching these products with our fine bone china mug and plate collection to create the perfect coastal setting.

If you are on the look out for a personal gift then you have come to the right place.  Suitable for any occasion, Beach BBQ’s or Alfresco dining.
